Document FOCUS goals with a required completion date, use FOCUS goals to break down WIN WIN goals into manageable pieces. Prioritise goals so you complete the most important ones first or those required first in a sequence of events. By documenting your task or goals ensures they are not forgotten creating time delays in achieving your workload.

Really enjoyed meeting and getting to know others within SunWater – building networks and communications. Overall, have been delegating more activities and tasks since beginning this course and have more time to spend on the HPAs and able to keep up with workload even with taking 1 day a fortnight off to reduce TOIL levels. The course has many small tools and processes which can easily be utilised on a daily basis without too much change. A number of behavioural changes such as thinking more about what I say and do as well as listening to others more. Understand that just because we have different points of view doesn’t mean they are all wrong or right. More confidence in managing and leading a team. The main goal was to successfully complete this leadership course but also be able to take away skills, processes and tools to assist in my development as a team leader as well as developing a successful and performing team.

Some goals are long term & the fact team size has been reduced, the actions will need to be broken down into smaller actions for completion.

I have achieved some of my goals, some are still ongoing but the whole course was very enjoyable and a great learning experience. I believe it has given me a great tool.

It was good to re-visit goal setting and also to re-affirm that using lists such as imperative – important and discussion planner is a fair way of managing tasks.

The most enjoyable aspects of the course, was getting together with other supervisors and speaking about problems they have faced and resolutions they have found for the issues in their work place. Also finding out I was not alone with the issues I had. Another aspect of the course I like was the delegation of low payoff activities and reduction of the amount of work I was required to complete daily and allow more time to carry out my high payoff activities and regain control of my team. I also enjoyed the presentations I took part in. I found my Senior Operators more than willing to take on more responsibilities and lessen my work load. They also are assisting me in my tasks and developing more skills to be able to step up to Operations Supervisor in my absence. I found that with this came, time I could be away from work and allowing more family time and reducing my Toil balance, being able to take leave and trust in the knowledge the work is being completed as required. I also noticed through the meetings, we are holding, (prestarts, toolbox) the communication has improved, I receive less phone calls from the operations team and customers, inquiring about progress of work requests that have been submitted and outstanding work requiring completion. The Senior Operators have also been involved in scheduling and planning of the required works to be able to organise the team and allow the completion of tasks in a timely manner. This has also led to the reduction of outstanding work orders in the operations plan. More so the team members are starting to show an interest in extra training in other aspects of water supply. The team is beginning to come together to achieve common goals and an understanding of the need to met our supply and service targets.

I enjoyed working with the participants in the workshops….A great crew that I would now call on for advice or expertise in some areas of the job. People in the organisation that I may never had meet otherwise.

I enjoyed receiving the results of the surveys through out the course and comparing my responses to them. I particularly was interested in the DIAS evaluation and felt that it was a fairly accurate representation of me. The course has given me the skills and knowledge and most importantly the confidence in my ability to be a leader. Although I am not currently the Manager of my team, I have acted in the role and regularly Project Manage small projects with small teams. I feel that the skills I have learnt through this course will help me in the future.

One particular business process has been reviewed and approved largely because of my attendance and use of the course team performance prompter. This change may not have occurred for several years as it was not identified as a significant business improvement until the idea was put forward for further action via the team performance prompter.

Writing a ‘To Do list’ Everyday definitely helps you plan your day and also aids in for a reminder tool of what is needed to be done and when. This simple tool has definitely helped me out immensely. It doesn’t sound much but 5minutes planning what is to be needed to be done I feel saves 55minutes figuring out what should be done and what by memory. This simply and effective tool has also benefitted myself at work and I have encouraged all staff to use daily.

For me all parts of this course were very enjoyable, meeting people from other regions (networking). Kristina was always great to be around and very professional presenting these sessions. My work has improved due to setting goals and achieving them. Life outside of work been the real winner here setting little goals and achieving them has been rewarding also setting goals with my wife will result in a holiday down the track. All in all I would like to thank SunWater for investing in my future.
