MENTAL ILLNESS FELLOWSHIP VICTORIA
Name: Rowena Douglas-Smith
I loved the class time, discussions and opportunity for collaboration with colleagues from across my organisation. I feel I have become a more confident supervisor, one that nurtures trust in the team; the benefits of which I’m hoping will mean staff work more efficiently, feel valued and enthusiastic.

The most enjoyable aspects of the course involved having ‘timeout’ of the program and being able to liaise with likeminded people with similar challenges. I was able to identify that I was getting bogged down in the day with non imperative activities and that I was taking on any of the teams angst within the partnership and the challenges of working with clients; rather than empowering and coaching the team to manage this independently and feedback to me. I accomplished a lot personally – sorted through health issues and completed another two units of university. I accomplished a lot professionally – succeeded in projects I was involved in rather than being overwhelmed and feeling as though I was treading water.

Enjoyed the course- would be good to try and adapt this course to make it more relevant to the social services sector. Focus Goals High Pay Off Activities Imperative and Important lists these three areas I have found to be most valuable in my day to day work

Throughout the course I felt often overwhelmed by the amount of work, readying and assessment tasks to complete before the next session. Every time I attended however, it was such a positive and inspiring environment to be in, and I felt re-energised to keep going and excited about the work I was doing and the achievements I was making. I feel the positive and supportive group, in addition to an enthusiastic and supportive leader in Paula made the experience very positive. Now it is winding up, I feel very satisfied and proud of the achievements I have made. There have been significant achievements in my program as a result of the course, in addition to my attitude about my work, about my current skill level and also a significant amount of reflection on how I operate, learn and problem solve.
