I enjoyed the discussions with the other participants. I felt encouraged by them, Mike and Karen which helped in my growth. I feel far more confident and equipped in my role as a manager. Whilst I naturally set goals the course has shown me how to break those goals down into steps and to set time frames and to review if necessary if they are stalling. This has spurred me on to achieve more than I may otherwise have done.

The most enjoyable part of the course I feel is the initiation through to the later stage of the work place project. I enjoyed using the learnings in developing the team and seeing them also develop throughout the course. I have implemented several ideas from the course and these include but not limited. Feedback Log, HPS’s, Daily “to do List”, become a better listener and so on.

Identifying action steps for each goal is something that was new for me, the same as the focus goals. This really helped me to focus on getting the goals done on time. In terms of time management it was really good to identify the HPA’s and put more focus on it. I think the biggest thing for me overall is the fact that I can’t determine what other people will do, I can only manage how I will respond to what they do and this changed my attitude. I was able to change a few really challenging relationships just by changing the way I approached the relationships and by changing my attitude.

The most enjoyable part of the course was learning about various techniques and other management tools to successfully lead a team and create an environment which is highly productive and motivated. Achievements for me include, regular pre-start discussion for teams regarding workloads, job progress, to do lists, identifying gaps, important/imperative (prioritising work), delegation. Other goals accomplished include multiskilling staff, delegation of low pay off work to others, and training/succession plans/reviews.

I have really enjoyed this course and in particular the interaction and support I have received from Mike Cameron and Brendan Jolly. This has been invaluable to me and my progress through out the year. The subject matter was very much related to my role and presented in a manner that was very easy to follow and apply. The course material and structure was very well set out and was meaningful in the current environment. I was able to apply all techniques and tools provided immediately not only within my work life but my personal life also. It has really opened my eyes to what leadership actually is and what is important in developing and building a great team and working environment for all. I would like to take the opportunity to thank not only FH and LMA but in particular Mike, Brendan and Karen for the time and efforts invested in myself. It is not often that these skills and knowledge are passed on if at all and I believe this has come at a crucial stage in my career and has totally changed my outlook to life. I really enjoyed the reasoning and breaking down of goal setting and achieving and the importance of having goals and realizing or achieving success through progressive realisation of these goals. I took particular interest in what High Pay Off activities were and how they effect not only myself, my team but the company. This was a real turning point for me in my journey. Also being able to pass this (and other lessons learnt) onto my team has been awesome. Being taught how to get the best out of people and my team has really given me a great deal of satisfaction and I love watching people grow or better themselves (even more so in a team situation). I now realize the importance of providing regular feedback and having crucial conversations along the way. The tools provided were great and I have used them all and will continue to do so. I have really enjoyed the concept of mentoring and carrying this role out in the workplace and even more so coaching in more recent times and this is a skill I will develop further. I like the synergies between the different subjects and being able to relate these together and realize the bigger picture. My team has commented frequently through out the course about the changes they have noticed in me and also enjoy the changes I have implemented in the work place (all of which have had very positive feedback). I have achieved numerous goals both work related and personal. Some of these can be seen in my FBOL. They include setting up generic TMPs for our operation, spending a lot more time in the field with the crews communicating important information, building better relationships and understanding them, building better relationships with our clients, providing valuable input to our successful tender bid to our current contract, introducing a structured system for cost tracking and the associated benefits, creating a structured role clarity map for our department, building a deck at home and getting my health and fitness back on track (I lost 16kg). The biggest measurable result I can identify is the change I have witnessed in myself and that has been confirmed by others. I now feel reinvigorated and refreshed with myself as a leader and focused on continuous improvement in all aspects. I feel confident in being a leader and look forward to creating the best work environment and team possible.

The open discussions were great amongst the group. The win win goals are going along well and communication is clearer to staff. Training is still a very high priority on my list for drainage improving for the future . Setting HPAs daily have also worked very well, creating more time for other aspects of our dept.

Enjoyed learning with the other guys and being able to discuss what goes on in our own workplaces. Seeing how other people largely had the same issues as you helps to clarify ways of getting past them.

How to set and achieve goals not only in a workplace environment but also in my personal life. The ability to interact with and learn from the experiences of fellow peers who are on the same journey as I am.

For me LMA was an eye opener about what level I was actually operating at and where I should actually be. It also gave me the tools to re-align my priorities and provided a wee bit of light at the end of
my tunnel. Being in a relatively new job I had got into the habit of not being able to say ‘no’ and this was causing me a fair bit of stress due to the amount of work I was taking on and also the amount of work that I was failing to get through which were in actual fact my HPA’s. I guess when the course started I was thinking I’ll pick a topic, have a start date and work through to completion, but on reflection, the Win-Win goal for me is a bigger animal to get under control and definitely not within the timeframe I had. But, saying that, it has provided me with a route to achieving that goal even if it is over a longer period. Thoroughly enjoyed the course and would highly recommend it.

The biggest success of this course for me was a change in attitude! I am now a living example of “be the change you want to see” if I can change my attitude and ways of thinking then anyone can.
